There’s a deep, transformative truth often overlooked in our daily Christian walk—the reality of a life empowered. Many believers recognise the resurrection as a historical event, celebrated on Easter and referenced in sermons. But Romans 8:11 reminds us that resurrection power isn’t a past event to merely commemorate—it’s a present reality to live by.
The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead lives within us. This truth is not just good theology; it’s the foundation of an empowered, victorious life.
“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” – Romans 8:11 (NASB1995)
Resurrection power is not limited to Easter Sunday. It is not just a biblical account to be remembered—it is a living reality within us now.
The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you. Think about this: the power that shattered death’s hold, shook the earth, and rolled the stone away is the very power residing in every believer.
The Indwelling Spirit: Our Source of Life
Romans 8:11 reveals that the Holy Spirit gives life to our mortal bodies. This means:
- Spiritual Life – We were once dead in sin, but now we are alive in Christ (Ephesians 2:4-5).
- Strength for Daily Living – The Holy Spirit renews and empowers us daily (Isaiah 40:31).
- Hope Beyond the Grave – Just as Jesus was raised, we too will be raised to eternal life (1 Corinthians 6:14).
Walking in the Spirit’s Power
Many believers live as if they are powerless—struggling, weary, and defeated—forgetting the resurrection power within.
- Are you relying on your own strength or the Spirit’s power? (Zechariah 4:6)
- Are you trying to overcome sin through self-effort, or are you allowing the Spirit to transform you? (Galatians 5:16)
- Are you carrying burdens the Spirit is ready to lift? (Matthew 11:28-30)
Living a Spirit-Empowered Life
To walk in the power of the Spirit, we must:
- Stay in Communion with God – Daily prayer and time in His Word keep us connected.
- Surrender Our Lives Fully – We cannot live partly in the flesh and partly in the Spirit (Romans 8:5).
- Step Out in Faith – The Spirit empowers us to do more than we can imagine (Ephesians 3:20).
Your Challenge for This Week
- Declare Romans 8:11 over your life each morning.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you afresh and empower you for the day.
- Take a step that requires faith—trusting that the Spirit who raised Jesus is working in you!
You are not powerless. The Spirit dwells in you—walk in that power!
