Trusting God’s Plan. Storms can shatter the things we thought were carrying us. In Acts 27, Paul and his companions were caught in a violent storm at sea. The ship that once promised safety broke apart in the waves. Yet God’s word had already gone forth through Paul: “Not one of you will lose a single hair from his head” (v. 34). The ship broke, but God’s promise held.
How Do You Trust God’s Plan
“But we must run aground on a certain island.” – Acts 27:26
When the Ship Breaks
Sometimes, God allows the vessel to break, even when He has promised you will survive.
The Apostle Paul had a word from the Lord: “Not a single life will be lost.” But in the same breath, he adds, “We must run aground.” The ship they were depending on would be destroyed, yet God’s promise would still stand.
Isn’t that just like life?
You pray and receive a word of hope, but then the job is lost. A relationship ends. A door shuts. What do you do when what you trusted to carry you breaks apart?
You trust God anyway.
The Ship May Break, But God’s Plan Remains
The sailors did everything they could. They lightened the load. They dropped anchors. They even tried to run the ship aground gently, but in the end, the ship was destroyed. They had to float ashore on broken pieces of wood.
- Sometimes, God lets the vessel go to show us He is our deliverance.
- Sometimes, He allows the storm to strip us so that only His promise remains.
- Sometimes, we lose what we thought was essential, but gain the destination He had in mind all along.
Proverbs 19:21 reminds us, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but the counsel of the Lord, it will stand.”
And Proverbs 16:9 adds, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.”
Even when the ship breaks, His purpose is never broken.
What to Do When You Lose Something in the Storm
1. Trust that God is still in control
“The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” – Job 1:21
He is still sovereign, even in loss.
2. Look for how He is redirecting your path
“The Lord establishes a man’s steps… Though he falls, he will not be hurled down, for the Lord is the One who holds his hand.” – Psalm 37:23–24
Malta wasn’t on their map, but it was on God’s plan. That unseen and unexpected island became a place of miracles, just as described in Acts 28:1-10.
Remember: What is lost is not as important as what God is preserving.
“Though the outward man is decaying, the inner man is being renewed day by day.” – 2 Corinthians 4:16
God often uses what broke to bring us to what’s next.
Your Security is in the Saviour
Your security is not in the ship.
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we will trust in the name of the Lord our God.” – Psalm 20:7
God’s plan is bigger than your pain.
“This momentary light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory.” – 2 Corinthians 4:17
God will bring you through not just barely, but with purpose.
Everyone arrived safely as mentioned in Acts 27:44 just as God said. Not one life was lost. Their journey wasn’t just about survival. It became a testimony of God’s faithfulness and power.
Psalm 56:8 says, “You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book?”
Nothing is wasted in God’s plan, not even broken pieces.
Your Challenge for This Week
- If you have lost something, surrender it to God in prayer. Let go of the wreckage.
- Ask Him to show you the purpose beyond the storm. What does Malta represent for you?
- Believe that even broken pieces can carry you. The wreck won’t wreck His promise.
Even when the ship breaks, God’s word never fails. You may float to shore on fragments, but you will arrive.
“And so it happened that all were brought safely to land.” – Acts 27:44
