Deep within every believer is the call to partake in God’s divine nature—not as a distant concept but as a reality we were created to live in. This devotional reminds us that we are not just meant to know about God; we are called to reflect Him. The Water and Bread of Life (WBL Ministry) exists to nourish believers with spiritual truth, helping us walk daily in the fullness of Christ.
“For in Him we live and move and have our being…” – Acts 17:28
The Image of God—Distorted by Sin
God is not a distant deity confined to temples or objects fashioned by human hands. He is the very source of life—the One who created all things and sustains all things. Yet, in His infinite wisdom, He has extended an invitation to us: to seek Him, to know Him, and to partake in His divine nature.
From the beginning, we were made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). But sin distorted that image, severing humanity from the fullness of life in Him. This separation led us to create idols, both physical and intangible—whether of stone and metal or the gods of ambition, pleasure, and self.
Sin leaves a void within us—a longing that we try to fill with things that never satisfy. In our fallen state, we stumbled in darkness, clinging to idols of our own making. Yet even in our ignorance, God, in His mercy, did not abandon us. He intervened, calling us back to Himself.
God’s Call—An Invitation to Seek Him
Paul’s words in Acts 17 remind us that God orchestrated history with precision, setting boundaries and appointing times so that humanity might seek Him. Even now, He is not far from any of us. His call remains clear: “Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.”
Repentance is more than turning away from sin; it is returning to the life God originally intended for us. It is stepping into the divine nature He created us to partake in, as promised in 2 Peter 1:4, where we become participants in the divine nature, escaping the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
This means growing in Christlikeness, reflecting His love, and living according to His Spirit. And how do we do this? Through the One whom He has ordained—Jesus Christ. The resurrection of Christ is our assurance that the divine nature is not an unattainable ideal but a reality that we can enter into.
Reflect & Act:
- Are there any “temples made with hands” in your life—things you have placed your trust in instead of God?
- Do you recognize that your very being—your breath, your movement, your existence—is sustained by Him?
- Have you fully embraced repentance, allowing God to reshape you into His divine image?
God calls us beyond mere religion and ritual into a true relationship with Him. The invitation still stands: Seek Him, and you will find the life you were created to live.
Sin may have distorted God’s image in us, but through Christ, we are invited to step into our true inheritance—to live, move, and have our being in Him (Acts 17:28). As you engage with this devotion, may you be reminded that God is near, shaping you to reflect His love, holiness, and power.
Let’s walk together in the truth that we are not meant to be distant from God but participants in His divine nature (2 Peter 1:4). Will you embrace this invitation today?
