Partakers of the Divine Nature—this is not just a lofty idea but the very reality of our new life in Christ. As 2 Peter 1:4 declares, God has granted us exceedingly great and precious promises so that we may share in His divine nature. At WBL Ministry, our devotionals are designed to help believers walk in the fullness of this truth, drawing near to God as deep calls unto deep.
PART ONE
“By which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature…” – 2 Peter 1:4
Many live as though godliness is an unattainable goal, striving but never quite arriving. Yet, the Word reminds us that His divine power has already provided everything we need for life and godliness. This divine nature is not something we earn; we receive by knowing Christ intimately. The more we abide in Him, the more His holiness shapes our lives. His love becomes our love, His power our power, and His peace our peace.
However, this transformation demands a choice; to escape the world’s corruption. Sin is not just a hindrance; it is a weight that keeps us from fully partaking in God’s nature. The call to holiness is not a burden but a freedom, freedom to live in the fullness of God’s promises, unshackled from worldly desires.
To partake of something is to share in it, to be joined to it. When Peter speaks of being “partakers of the divine nature,” he isn’t offering a metaphor or a lofty theological concept. He is unveiling the very essence of our new life in Christ, a tangible, transformative reality.
Many live as though godliness is a distant standard—something we strive toward but never quite attain. But Peter reminds us that His divine power has already given us everything we need for life and godliness. This isn’t something we earn through our own efforts, but something we freely receive as a gift. The key to unlocking this gift? An intimate knowledge of Him.
This knowledge transcends mere intellectual assent; it’s an experiential, heart-level knowing of Christ. The more we know Him, the more we walk in the reality of His promises, and the more His very nature becomes evident in us. His holiness begins to shape our holiness. His righteousness informs our righteousness. His love, His power, His peace—all become increasingly ours as we abide in Him, like branches drawing life from the vine.
However, this profound transformation requires a conscious choice: escaping the corruption of the world. The divine nature cannot coexist with the decaying influence of sin. The lust of the flesh, the pride of life, and the deceitfulness of riches—these are not merely temptations; they are weights that actively hinder our participation in God’s nature. The call to be holy is not legalism; it is liberation. It is the freedom to live in the fullness of life that God intended, unburdened by the chains of worldly desires.
Reflect & Act:
- Are you living primarily as a servant of God, or are you embracing your identity as a son or daughter who actively partakes in His divine nature?
- Have you fully grasped and embraced the “exceedingly great and precious promises” of God, allowing them to shape your daily life?
- What specific worldly corruptions are you aware of that you must actively escape to walk fully in the abundant life He has given you?
God has not only invited us into a relationship with Him but has made us active participants in His very essence. Let us walk boldly in this truth, reflecting His glory to a world in need. May we daily choose to embrace our divine inheritance, living as true partakers of the divine nature. Amen.
