What True Love Is. In Luke 10:25-37, Jesus tells the parable of the Good Samaritan. A man traveling to Jericho is attacked by robbers, left wounded and helpless on the roadside.
Daily Bread Devotional: God, My Deliverer
A priest and a Levite pass by without helping him, but a Samaritan—a man from a group often despised by the Jews—stops, binds his wounds, and takes him to an inn, covering all his expenses.
This story beautifully illustrates the characteristics of true love as described in 1 Corinthians 13. True love, or charity, is patient and kind; it goes beyond societal boundaries and personal convenience. It isn’t self-serving but sacrificial.
In our lives today, true love means extending kindness even when it’s inconvenient, offering forgiveness when it’s undeserved, and seeking the good of others without expecting anything in return. Like the Samaritan, strive to embody love that “never fails.”
As you begin your week, ask yourself: Who can I show God’s love to today?
Have an amazing new week!
